guess I d better, she said, tucking her breast into
place. You mean man, you left me high, but hardly
dry. I m going to get you for that, later.
63
And I m going to get you, he said, pulling her
toward him in order to land a playful swat on her
backside.
Hey, you know I don t like that kind of stuff,
she said, even though the lingering sting made her
innermost spot throb with hunger. She d thought
about that, about spanking, thinking it might be&
interesting& to experience. But her mind had
insisted she shouldn t give her husband ideas. What
if he liked it, and she didn t? They d have yet one
more issue to argue about.
He murmured into her ear, Sometimes the
things we think we don t like, we end up loving. Or
we do them because we know we need to because
they re good for us. Kind of like eating broccoli
instead of Delmonico potatoes, with all their
fattening cream and cheese.

Reginald, AKA Roger Wyler, waited until the
couple in the back seat was ready to go inside the
restaurant. He d always had a good sense of when
to jump out to open the door, and when to sit
quietly until the people were ready. He could still
hear giggling, so he waited a little longer, smiling.
He didn t mind the wait.
He loved his limo business. It had taken him a
few years to establish it, as the services he offered
were rather specialized, but word of mouth had
slowly, steadily grown. Last year he d finally quit his
full-time job as a bookkeeper, and just this spring
he d had to hire another driver. He d driven as far
as the next state, picking up clients over one
hundred miles away, with them paying his round-
trip time and fees. And then there were the special
fittings and straps in the passenger area, the
implements he d carefully chosen, the little things
he provided, like ice packs and lotions, in case the
man got a little too enthusiastic for his woman.
Again, he didn t mind. He felt he was performing a
64
genuine service, meeting a need that no one before
had ever met.
And the men were grateful. After a while, the
women were, too, though they sometimes needed a
few months to become truly appreciative. Usually
the improvement in their marriage changed their
minds. He d received more fifty-dollar bills tucked
inside holiday cards than he cared to count, not to
mention the three-figure tips he earned. But,
though the money was incredible after expenses,
he d clear over a hundred thou this year the
money wasn t the reason he did what he did. Simply
put, he believed in love and happiness, the
happiness that came from everyone feeling secure
in their life s role. Man was made to help woman
when she became a little too upset, a little too
frustrated, a little too outspoken. And he helped her
by lovingly reddening that beautiful, well-padded
area that she sat on, until she cried, releasing her
anger and frustration.
The system had worked for him and his wife,
and, like any convert, he d become determined to
spread the news. From what he could tell, modern
husbands and wives needed a bit of retro thinking
for both of them to get along, so that the gears of
their marriage would mesh like those of a precision
machine.
It had taken him a long time to come up with his
business s name. He d read the word larrup in an
old paperback western. He d looked it up, and liked
it much better than anything else he d dreamed up.
Certainly it was a much better business name than
Roger s Rides . No, Larruper s Limos accurately
communicated what his service was: a limousine
service for spankers, mostly men who wanted to
introduce their women to the harmonious marital
joys that ensued from regular application of a man s
hand, or a hairbrush, to her bare bottom.
And the Reginald ? Well, it sounded classy.
British. Women seemed to love British men. So,
65
why not? After all, part of what he was selling was
fantasy. Why not make the most of it? He d told his
new driver to pick a similar name, and the man had
chosen Colin , almost as good a name as Reginald.
He sensed the time to open the door was at
hand, and did so. He helped the lady out of the
limo, and she smiled at him.
He loved to make couples happy.

Steve gazed at his wife as she drank deeply
from her wine glass, and as she laughed over her
mispronunciation of some of the French on the
menu with the waiter. He knew she hadn t enjoyed
herself this way in several years. Pleasing her by
providing this night brought on a flush of pride,
pride that she was his wife, pride at how well she
fulfilled her part, not only in the marriage, but also
as a parent.
You know something? he said, reaching across
the table to touch the back of her hand.
She blew him a kiss. What, dear?
I m so pleased and proud that you re my wife.
And I hope we have many, many more years
together.
Her eyes misted. Oh, Steve, me, too. I love
you, honey, and I m not saying that just because of
what you lined up for tonight. You know that, I
hope.
He waved his hand with a smile, to let her know
he understood. And do you know that you make
me the happiest man on earth? he said, reaching
across to stroke her cheek.
Of course I do. And you make me the happiest
